New York state approved construction of a transmission line, the first part of a proposed 132-megawatt offshore wind farm off the coast of Long Island, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday.
The 7.6-mile transmission line would link the South Fork offshore wind farm to a substation in the Town of East Hampton in Suffolk County, according to a news release from Cuomo (D). The line is expected to be operational by 2023.
