New York Agrees to Pause All-Electric Buildings Law Amid Appeal

New York state agreed on Wednesday to delay the implementation of a law requiring most new buildings statewide to use electric heat and appliances, rather than fossil fuels, pending ongoing litigation.

The pause is in place until an appeal filed by unions and gas trade associations challenging the law is settled before the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The law had been set to kick in on Jan. 1, 2026.
