New Mexico Sues to Stop Nuclear Waste Storage Site Progress

New Mexico wants a federal district court to stop the Nuclear Regulatory Commission from allegedly reaching beyond its authority to license storage facilities for nuclear waste, which could endanger the health of nearby residents, the state’s attorney general said in a lawsuit filed Monday.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission reviewed Holtec International’s license application to build an interim nuclear waste storage facility in Lea and Eddy counties in New Mexico.
