New Italian Government Coalition Would Support a Green New Deal

Italy’s new government-in-the-making announced its support for its own Green New Deal that would make protecting the environment a hallmark of all government spending.

“All public investment plans should have at the center environmental protection, support for renewable sources, protection for biodiversity and the seas, and the fight against climate change,” the populist Five Star Movement and center-left Democratic Party wrote in a draft government program released Sept. 3.
