New Hampshire is concerned that fluorinated “forever chemicals” are leaking from a decades-old federal Superfund site, prompting state moves to clean it up.
Contaminants—including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)—are leaking from the federal Superfund site of Coakley landfill, in North Hampton, N.H., and haven’t been adequately addressed by the federal Environmental Protection Agency, New Hampshire officials say.
The pollutants at the immediate site have been addressed by EPA but toxic chemicals have leached into nearby private drinking water wells and groundwater, according to the EPA.
