Massachusetts and Rhode Island are joining forces to procure what they say is the largest amount of offshore wind energy in New England history, the states announced Friday.
In the first coordinated procurement of its kind, the states will bring in 2,878 megawatts from three new offshore wind projects in the region, according to a press release. The energy equals 20% of Massachusetts’ electric demand, enough to power more than 1.4 million homes, the release said.
