Nevada Cement to Pay $4 Million for Air Pollution Violations

A Nevada cement maker will spend about $4 million under an agreement with the federal government over alleged Clean Air Act violations.

Nevada Cement Co. will pay a $550,000 civil penalty and spend about $3 million to install pollution control and monitoring equipment at its Fernley, Nev., plant. In addition, a spokeswoman for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 9 said that as part of the agreement, the company will spend approximately $420,000 on a new diesel rail car and a heavy-duty diesel vehicle.
