The Navy is looking to dramatically cut its greenhouse gas emissions and become a more energy-efficient fighting force, according to a military official.
A new climate strategy details ways the Navy can cope with a warming world that’s increasing the potential for power outages, lifting energy costs, and prompting more deployments for humanitarian aid and disaster relief.
“I think the entire department sees it as one of the most destabilizing forces of our time,” Meredith Berger, assistant secretary of the Navy for energy, installations, and environment, told reporters on Monday.
