Sunnyside Gold Corp. and two related mining companies agreed to pay the Navajo Nation and New Mexico a total of $21 million to resolve claims the companies created the conditions that led to the catastrophic Gold King Mine spill in 2015.
Sunnyside reached a no-fault settlement with the Navajo Nation for $10 million and with New Mexico for $11 million in connection with the blowout, said Gina Myers, director of reclamation operations for the company.
