The NAACP is seeking class action status on behalf of Flint, Mich., residents over the drinking water crisis, it announced May 18 after filing a lawsuit in federal court (Gilcreast v. Lockwood, Andrew & Newman P.C., E.D. Mich., 5:16-cv-11173, 3/31/16).
The lawsuit, which targets Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) and others, alleges that Michigan, its environment department and private water engineering firms failed under the governance of state-appointed emergency managers to properly treat or detect lead-contaminated water in Flint.
