N.Y. Port Authority Adopts Greener Construction Measures (1)

The agency charged with protecting the nation’s financial center from strong storms and rising sea levels said Tuesday it will seek to do so in a greener way.

New measures from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey include specifications for low-carbon concrete, reducing the required cement content in certain concrete mixes by 25%. Cement accounts for about 8% of global carbon emissions.

Another measure is waste matching for concrete, asphalt, and soil across all Port Authority construction sites toward the end of the year in order to reduce the amount of material sent to landfills, and the ...
