N.J. Climate Suit Against Oil Majors Is First in Over a Year (1)

Exxon Mobil Corp., Shell PLC, and other oil majors will face the first new climate liability lawsuit in over a year over claims they mislead consumers about the role of fossil fuel production in climate change.

New Jersey is now part of almost two dozen similar climate lawsuits launched by cities, states, and counties under local consumer protection laws. None of the cases have reached trial at the local level yet, and are still mired in battles over whether they should be heard under federal jurisdiction.
