N.C. Governor Seeks Major Greenhouse Gas Cuts

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) is calling for a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to help address the environmental impacts of climate change such as the powerful storms that have recently pounded the state.

Cooper signed an executive order Oct. 29 that calls for a 40 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2025, when compared with 2005 levels. In his order, the governor cited “climate-related environmental disruptions” and the increasing frequency and intensity of hurricanes that are hitting North Carolina.
