Mozambique Bans 79 Highly Hazardous Pesticides After Working With United Nations

Mozambique has banned the use of 79 highly hazardous pesticides, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, whose officials worked closely with the ministries of environment and agriculture in the East African country to ensure deregistration of the chemicals that presented risks to human health and the environment.

“The decision to deregister those chemicals was significant in that over the past 10 years, the average annual volume of pesticide imports into Mozambique has increased by 500 percent,” said Mark Davis, senior pesticides management officer at the UN’s FAO.
