U.S. energy regulators granted the Mountain Valley Pipeline another four years to put into service their long-delayed project designed to carry Appalachian natural gas through West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Tuesday decided unanimously to allow developers until Oct. 13, 2026, to put the project into service. It’s the second extension of the project’s certificate, initially granted in 2017. The commission previously approved a two-year extension in 2020. The authorization was set to expire in October.
The commission found there was “good cause” to grant the extension.
