Mountain Valley Pipeline Forest Crossing Draws Legal Challenge

The U.S. Forest Service “bowed to political pressure” and improperly approved a plan allowing the Mountain Valley Pipeline to cross through Jefferson National Forest, according to environmental groups and a tribe challenging the decision in the Fourth Circuit.

The agency’s record of decision announced Monday comes in response to a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit that the project needed additional review. The Mountain Valley Pipeline is a proposed 303.5 mile interstate natural gas pipeline project that would cross about 3.5 miles of forest in West Virginia and Virginia.
