More Covid-19 Disinfectants, Information Released by EPA

April 2, 2020, 7:32 PM UTC

The EPA added eight new disinfectants on Thursday to its list of germ killers that health care facilities, institutions, and homeowners can use in their fight against Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s list also now includes information about the types of surfaces on which the more than 360 disinfectants on its approved list can be used.

“This additional information will empower the public to choose products that are appropriate for their specific circumstances,” the agency’s announcement said. The EPA also added:

  • Frequently Asked Questions about disinfectants and the coronavirus; and
  • The names of 48 more inert ingredients that disinfectant producers can use in their products. Inert ingredients don’t fight the virus, but help the product work, for example, by propelling an aerosol spray.
