Mondelez Accused of Greenwashing in Its Sustainability Labels

One of the world’s largest snack and chocolate companies has allegedly been misleading consumers about its products following environmentally and socially responsible standards, a lawsuit in California federal court says.

Megan Waggener Van Meter brought the proposed class suit against Mondelez International Inc.—the maker of Oreos, Chips Ahoy!, and more—saying she wouldn’t have purchased Mondelez’s products if she was aware of the alleged misrepresentations.

“Mondelez blatantly greenwashes its products in order to increase its own sales and deceptively earn the goodwill and support of the public,” the complaint says.
