An Arizona copper and gold mining company has agreed to pay $5.5 million to the U.S. government for costs incurred under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, under a proposed consent decree to be published Jan. 5 (United States v. Freeport-McMoRan Corp.).
The proposed consent decree was filed Dec. 29, 2011, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico.
