Midwest Communities Sue Syngenta Over Atrazine in Public Water Supplies

Communities in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, and other Midwestern states filed a class action lawsuit against the agribusiness company Syngenta in federal district court March 8, saying the company should pay for removing the herbicide atrazine from public water drinking water supplies (Greenburg, Ill. v. Syngenta).

“Defendants designed, marketed, and sold atrazine knowing that it would contaminate public water supplies when used as intended,” the complaint filed with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois said.

The complaint names 16 cities and villages and Miami County (Kan.) Rural Water District No. 2 as plaintiffs.
