Michigan Repeals Law Restricting Agencies In Tough Rulemaking (1)

Michigan agencies can regulate more stringently than the federal government for the first time in five years, after the state government repealed a 2018 statute that barred them from doing so.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed SB 14 into law on Wednesday. The bill is a win for environmental groups as the state grapples with issues like air quality. Whitmer’s action “will help restore local control to protect our natural resources, improve public health, and preserve our clean air and water, which are all crucial to attracting people and businesses to Michigan,” the governor’s office said in a statement.
