Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s fall legislative agenda laid out Wednesday focused heavily on climate, including 100% clean energy standards and speedier renewable energy permitting.
House Democrats have already introduced bills that would help satisfy one part of the governor’s agenda: mandating the state’s electric companies to use carbon-free energy starting in 2035.
“Our Majority for the People has already made enormous strides, and we are excited to keep that same energy and focus heading into the fall,” Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D) said in a statement.
