Michigan Challenges Energy Department Power Plant Shutdown Delay

Michigan is suing the Energy Department for extending the life of a coal plant in the state that was due for retirement.

“Petitioner respectfully requests that this Court hold unlawful, vacate, and set aside the Campbell Extension Order,” Michigan said in a short petition for review filed Thursday with the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit.

Environmental groups including the Sierra Club and Natural Resources Defense Council also challenged the move in July in the same court. Some of the same groups in September additionally challenged the retirement pushback of oil and gas units at Eddystone Generating Station ...
