A Grand Rapid, Mich., Catholic school lacked standing to sue the state attorney general and others to bar enforcement against it of Michigan’s recognition of sexual orientation and gender identity rights under state sex bias law.
Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Grand Rapids therefore wasn’t entitled to a preliminary injunction barring application of the state’s reading of Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, which the school said conflicts with its beliefs, teachings, and mission, the US District Court for the Western District of Michigan said Tuesday. The school filed a notice of appeal with the court on Wednesday.
