Mexico Sees Half of Electricity Coming from Renewables by 2050

Mexico’s clean energy goals are getting more ambitious.

The country, which currently produces about 20 percent of its electricity with renewable sources, hopes to hit the 50 percent mark by 2050, Guillermo Garcia Alcocer, president of the Energy Regulatory Commission, said May 8 in Mexico City.

The country will hold its third-ever renewable power auction this year, probably in November, to expand its clean-energy generation, according to Energy Minister Pedro Joaquin Coldwell.
