Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R) vetoed a bill Thursday that would have imposed a statewide ban on the pesticide chlorpyrifos.
The bill, S.B. 300, was among the last pieces of legislation passed by the General Assembly before the legislative session ended in March.
- Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphate-based insecticide used to control pests on a variety of crops. New York, California, and Hawaii have already passed laws to prohibit its use or sale. The European Union also banned it this year.
