House Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) new energy adviser is Maryam Brown. A Hill veteran with long ties to K Street, Brown joined Ryan’s team after spending three years with former House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who resigned in October.
Her path to the speaker’s office was unconventional: The Louisiana native began her career as a mechanical engineer with Amoco Oil. That short stint piqued her interest in energy policy and, after getting her law degree, she came to Washington. Since then, she’s worked for ConocoPhillips, the Senate Republican Policy Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
