Many Climate Change Laws May Lie Ahead For Latin America to Confront Economic Toll

Latin America is expected to launch a slew of climate change laws by 2017 as it rushes to fight global warming, which is expected to have a heavy toll on the region.

Latin America accounts for 12.5 percent of global emissions but could be one of the most-affected global regions if temperatures rise 4 degrees Celsius by 2100, according to the latest World Bank research. Rising seas alone could cost the tourist-dependent Caribbean Islands as much as $68.2 billion by 2080, according to the bank.
