A Maine legislative committee on Tuesday took up a bill that would make the state among the nation’s first to apply statute of limitations protections to problems linked to so-called forever chemicals.
Several members of the Maine Legislature’s Committee on Judiciary suggested the bill’s (LD 2160) language might be modified to give individuals, businesses, farms, and municipalities access to court to pursue damage claims—but without unintentionally opening the door to litigation against water utilities.
