Maine is ditching its fees on solar energy and instead will offer credits to businesses and homes that generate excess solar power.
A bill (H.P. 77) that Gov. Janet Mills (D) signed April 2 implements a “net metering” policy commonly used by other states to encourage homes and businesses to install solar panels. Under net metering, buildings in Maine that generate more electricity than they use in a month will receive a credit on next month’s electric bill.
