Maine Adopts $70 Million Relief Plan for Farms Plagued by PFAS

Maine this week approved a plan to distribute $70.3 million to help commercial farms impacted by PFAS, the country’s first program of its kind.

The state’s PFAS Fund Advisory Committee adopted on Monday the five-year plan, most of which will be funded by the state’s 2022 bipartisan Fund to Address PFAS Contamination. Payments are anticipated to start this fall, according to the fund’s webpage.

Around $30.3 million of the sum will go directly to farmers impacted by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, covering things such as income replacement, loan assistance, and compensation for time spent on PFAS response.
