Maersk Oil Faces Danish Chemical Breach Prosecution

Denmark has taken the unusual step of initiating legal action against the Copenhagen-based multinational Maersk Oil for environmental breaches relating to modifications to a chemical used in oil extraction.

The nation’s EPA said in an Aug. 10 statement that Maersk Oil was accused of violating rules on illegal offshore chemical discharges contained in the Danish Marine Environment Act (963/2013). The case will lead to increased supervision of Maersk Oil’s environmental practices, EPA Head of Department Yvonne Korup told Bloomberg BNA.
