Louisiana and Oil Groups Seek to Stop Changes to Gulf Lease Sale

The State of Louisiana, the American Petroleum Institute and a Chevron Corp. unit moved for a preliminary injunction Tuesday to stop changes to Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 261 from being implemented.

Offered in the sale are oil and gas exploration rights for unleased acreage on the Gulf of Mexico’s outer continental shelf.

The groups told the US District Court for the Western District of Louisiana that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s alterations to the sale terms would “result in irreparable harm” and that they’re “substantially likely to prevail on the merits of their claims.”
