Lobstermen Want $66,000 in Attorneys’ Fees in Fishing Area Suit

Massachusetts Lobstermen’s Association Inc. is seeking about $66,000 in attorneys’ fees after successfully challenging a rule from the National Marine Fisheries Service that temporarily closed fishing grounds.

The group filed its suit in February after the agency amended the Atlantic Large Whale Take Reduction Plan to protect North Atlantic right whales from getting tangled in fishing gear. The decision expanded the boundaries of the seasonal Massachusetts restricted area to include the wedge between state and federal waters.
