LLOG Exploration Should Pay for 2017 Oil Spill, US Says in Suit

LLOG Exploration Offshore LLC should pay for response costs to a 2017 crude oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the United States said in a federal court complaint filed Wednesday in Louisiana.

The US lawsuit claims the pipeline leak occurred at the oil company’s facility located approximately 40 miles off the shore of Venice, La., and lasted for at least 32 hours. The incident discharged 672,000 gallons of oil, which polluted portions of the Gulf of Mexico from the sea floor to the water surface, and likely impacted numerous types of aquatic life.
