Lizard Imperiled by Texas Oil Drilling Listed as Endangered (1)

The dunes sagebrush lizard, an amphibian threatened by Permian Basin oil and gas development in Texas and New Mexico, is being listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act, the US Fish and Wildlife Service announced Friday.

The oil and gas industry is accusing the agency of using the listing as a way to ban oil and gas development in part of the Permian Basin—one of the most productive oil and gas plays in North America.
