Lion, Tigers, Lemurs at Center of Zoo’s High Court Petition (1)

The Fourth Circuit was wrong to allow PETA to sue a Maryland zoo for animal mistreatment, the zoo claims in a petition seeking review by the U.S. Supreme Court.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Inc. claimed the zoo in Cumberland, Md., didn’t provide basic necessities to eight animals protected by the Endangered Species Act: two ring-tailed lemurs, five tigers, and an African lion. The zoo is challenging PETA’s standing to sue, which PETA said it gained when it spent money to raise public awareness about the animals’ treatment, according to the petition.
