Linwood Mining & Minerals Corp. pumps hazardous waste from a limestone kiln plant in eastern Iowa into its neighbor’s property, which contaminates the groundwater, Continental Cement Co. said in a federal lawsuit.
Linwood takes hazardous kiln emissions containing nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, and carbon monoxide and routes them into mine tunnels that travel underneath Continental’s property, the suit said. It also pumps slurry containing arsenic, lead, and zinc from its rotary lime kilns into mine injection wells underneath the property, the suit said.
