The Interior Department’s recommended oil and gas leasing reforms are poised to cut the climate impact of production on federal lands and waters while carefully staying within the bounds of the law, analysts say.
The long-awaited report, which the White House requested after President Joe Biden took office, maps out possible reforms for Interior’s onshore and offshore oil and gas leasing program. But it didn’t go into detail about climate impacts from leasing.
