Lawmakers Weigh More Nuclear Support After Canceled Project

Electric utilities have raised serious concerns on the viability of advanced nuclear projects due to this month’s collapse of NuScale Power Corp.'s small modular reactor project, cost overruns, and fuel questions, lawmakers and nuclear experts said Thursday.

“We’re witnessing struggles and hesitancy in getting advanced nuclear projects off the ground,” Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), the chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said at the outset of a hearing on advanced nuclear projects.
