Lawmakers Demand Action on Unfinished Pipeline Safety Rules (1)

The head of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is facing increasing pressure from lawmakers to bolster safety regulations as the number of deadly and destructive gas pipeline incidents increases.

Skip Elliott, administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, said the agency plans to finish its pipeline safety mandates by the end of the calendar year, although some might not be completed until 2020.

He said he’s trying to address lawmakers’ concerns about perceived holes in pipeline safety regulations and slow progress toward finishing years-old mandates from Congress.
