Knouse Foods Cooperative Inc. has agreed to pay $230,000 to settle alleged Clean Water Act violations at a fruit processing facility in Peach Glenn, Pa., according to the Environmental Protection Agency Wednesday.
The facility allegedly exceeded nitrogen and phosphorus limits in its wastewater close to 120 times. It also failed to roll out a stormwater pollution prevention plan, EPA said.
“With 120 violations, this is one of the worst cases we have seen for a while. It’s crucial for us to hold polluters like this accountable to protect our water,” said Adam Ortiz, EPA Mid-Atlantic regional administrator.
