Plaintiffs in the closely watched “kids climate case” are attempting to revive a narrower version of their ambitious lawsuit against the federal government after a series of legal setbacks.

The 21 children and young adults in Juliana v. United States on Tuesday filed an unexpected request to file an amended complaint that would give the plaintiffs a fresh chance to argue that the government’s support of fossil fuel development is unconstitutional.
