Kemira Chemicals Agrees to Pay $130,000 to Settle Pollution Suit

Kemira Chemicals Inc. agreed to pay $130,000 to settle a lawsuit over alleged water pollution violations at its manufacturing facility in Washington state, according to a Tuesday filing in federal court.

The majority of the money—$70,000—will go to the MRG Foundation for projects benefiting water quality or aquatic habitat in the Columbia River Basin, according to the settlement agreement filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.

The remainder will go toward Columbia Riverkeeper’s attorneys’ fees and costs, the filing says.
