LANSING, Mich.—Kellogg Co. will pay a $500,000 fine and take steps to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds at cereal and snack food manufacturing facilities in Battle Creek and Grand Rapids, under a proposed consent decree filed in federal court (United States v. Kellogg USA Inc.).
The proposed settlement would resolve allegations of Clean Air Act violations by the Environmental Protection Agency, which said the company made changes to flavor-coating equipment at the Battle Creek plant that resulted in increases in both actual and potential VOC emissions.
