Citibank must maintain climate grants held in green bank accounts the EPA has been trying to claw back, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.
The ruling is a temporary win for the environmental groups and their Democratic allies, who say the money is needed to kickstart clean energy projects across the nation. More broadly, the groups argue the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) was authorized by Congress in the 2022 climate law, and the EPA can only take back the grants if it can prove a violation of the grant’s terms.
