Johnson Controls Sued by Wisconsin Over Alleged PFAS Discharges

Wisconsin accused Johnson Controls International Plc. of violating state spills laws by failing to notify regulators of “forever chemicals” discharges and remediate resulting environmental damages, according to a suit filed Monday by the state’s attorney general.

The complaint said Johnson Controls and its related entity Tyco Fire Products LP discharged firefighting foams containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from a Marinette, Wis., facility in the course of conducting fire suppressant research, development, testing, and training.

The releases resulted in PFAS contamination of soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, stormwater, and air at and around the property, the complaint said.
