ROME—Italy’s Council of Ministers March 3 approved a decree that will phase out most government green energy incentives over the next 10 years but which Minister of Environment Stefania Prestigiacomo said will create more stability in the renewable energy sector.
The plan will gradually phase out state-sponsored incentives—including sellable green certificates for companies that produce green energy—over a span of six to 10 years, depending on the sector, rather than eliminating them all at once, as was briefly considered in 2010.
