Iowa’s Latest ‘Ag Gag’ Law Violates First Amendment, Court Rules

Iowa’s latest “ag gag” law is unconstitutional, a federal judge ruled, siding with environmental and animal rights groups who said that the law, which aimed to prevent such groups from recording images or video of conditions in livestock facilities, violated their right to free speech.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Inc., and three other groups sued over Iowa Code section 727.8A, which they said was another “blatant effort” by lawmakers to protect industrial agricultural operations by suppressing investigations into their practices.
