The Trump administration plans to lift regulations governing minerals prospecting in Congressionally-protected wilderness areas, the Interior Department said Tuesday.
The Bureau of Land Management plans to rescind 18 regulations that it calls outdated and redundant, part of an effort to eliminate rules to “offset the costs of new regulations,” according to the announcement. The plans align with the Trump administration’s goals to eliminate regulations it disfavors and remove barriers to fossil fuel and critical mineral production on federal lands nationwide.
The Interior Department didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about which new regulations are being implemented.
